Silver Lining

Shades of grey,
Reminiscence, I fall prey,
Echoes I hear,
Voices of people, dear.
The wheel moves on,
As crests n’ troughs fall on!

I’m tossed above
I glide, I rove,
I wish by me,
The dear would be,
A quest, in the dark, I'am mining,
Searching for my silver lining….

The Neighborhood Walk

A stroll through the walkways,
Of CP’s residential plots,
During lazy summer days,
Waiting for luck to turn, in the lots

Carpets of green, such beautiful lawns,
Fireflies that fly, their glow so green,
My friend beside me, tall and brawn
Hidden a kiddish fear to most unseen….

A stroll through the lone railroad,
Through the gentle breeze of the outskirts,
A deer or two amidst croaking toads,
The township ahead, teak trees that skirt,

My friend beside me, we walk,
Reminiscence of the Drews and the Fives,
Chattering as we walk the talk,
Amidst bda complexes and bee hives…

A stroll through the pines and cedars,
Through the streets of Shillong,
Over the hill, the road meanders -
Whispers within me, this is where I belong….

My friend beside, we walk walk and walk,
Just like old times on every trip,
My Dad rants and I listen to the talks,
Dowsed in reminiscence the stories drip….

Stuck In A Metro

I watched the baby wail,
And wondered why?
Maybe he knew,
Something was wrong….
The train had just left, the station,
Now it stood still, suspended,
The little girl in pink shorts,
Sucked on her thumb,
And tried in vain, to sleep,
Something was wrong,
Her brother irritated,
Yelled at his mom,
Helpless, with her tiny tots,
And a truck load of luggage,
She stood, stuck!
In a crowded metro;
Something was wrong,
“This train will be on hold”
Came the conductors voice,
For the tenth time in a row,
The lady by the door fretted,
Panic-stricken she watched,
Something was wrong….
The lady by the door,
Rescheduled her flight,
She wouldn’t make it
Something was wrong,
Soon someone noted,
Not one train passed by,
The tracks next door lay wasted,
Something was significantly wrong,
The little girl in pink shorts,
Wondered aloud, if the train started,
Would I choke on my bubblegum?
Stuck in the metro, high above
I watched, the road below,
83, Cherry Hill…There goes my bus,
So close and yet so far….

The Shoe

As she flipped through the pages,
Amidst random poses,
And random faces, of strangers,
The Shoe… caught her eye!
A little too familiar,
For the quotidian glance,
A little too blemished,
For the common man,
Highly insignificant,
Amidst mundane glances,
The Shoe… caught her eye!
Is it the same? The Shoe…
The mind wanders,
Memories from time immemorial,
Tied to a string, trickle by,
Comfortably in a cane chair,
In a black cotton shirt,
Sat its owner, miles away,
Quite so in oblivion,
The Shoe… caught her eye!

Trapped In A Soap Bubble

The world around seems
Beyond my reach,
If I flutter,
I’m afraid, it will break,
The iridescence,
That catches,
The child’s gleam,
A make-believe feel,
That masks reality!
I scrounge for relief,
But no one sees….
A thin film separates,
My world, from yours,
But a world of difference,
To perspectives it lends…
Varied hues, random colors,
A soul that wanders lay,
Trapped… in a soap bubble.

Grad Escapades - Fall’08

The car glides through
Skyline drive,
The valley beneath,
In hues of yellow and orange…

Herding the girls,
The car meanders;
Through the mountains,
Beneath, the sky-blue sheath….

Shenandoah Valley,
Here I come,
Make way for me, Oh-
“Beautiful Daughter of the Stars”

A time of glee,
Through the lonely breeze,
The scent of purity,
Amidst, falling leaves….

A time of glee,
Through winding roads,
Amidst dark brown trees,
And golden leaves….

A time to cherish,
For years to come,
Of skyline drives,
And grad escapades….

Whispers

The journey was placid,
Through the meadows and
The lush green countryside,
The bus moved smooth….
Greenery all around,
Under a light blue sky -
But the wind carried,
A melancholy tone;
The mother spoke on,
Words of wisdom,
Of years passed on,
The daughter lay sorrowful,
A heavy head on a heavy shoulder!
The clock ticks on,
Soon it will be November,
As festivities buzz around,
Few know…. reality as is –
The clock ticks on,
As all cling on, to hope,
Things will be fine,
An assurance to pacify,
The heavy minds, sigh!
Things will be fine,
The wind whispers by...

Racing against time…

As I walk throu', breezy,
The corridors of Georgetown D.C,
At Benetton, the manequin,
Adorning a shining sequin,
Stares right throu' me,
She seems, far too free..

A posh dress she wears, pretty,
The look, persnickety,
A wish that wanders by,
An inner voice, that lets it die...
A thin line, known to few,
Of affordability, I chew...

Reality as I see,
Unseen, a tone of dree,
Quite different to thee eyes,
Engulfed in a sea of lies,
A smile that hides it all,
The pillar still stands, tall...

Racing against time,
I walk throu' my prime,
My oobleness killing me,
Chained I wanna break free,
As everyone around; seek,
The answers, far too bleak,

Caged, The Canary Flew

Eight years ago in Nov,
He brought the Canary home….
Sweet and smart she hopped,
In the cage, relieved;
Through high tides and low,
She sang to him, Tra-la-la la-la…
Ms. Chirpy chirp, she was,
Until he walked, with his girl;
Stories galore he would rant,
Of cousins near and dear,
Of kiddish crimes,
And cohorts of the prime,
Of witty rustic tales,
And magnum opuses,
Stories of the Sicilian mafia,
The plethora of games and wars,
Debates of unconventionalities,
Of struggles against the crowd,
Until one day, The Canary flew,
Stoned and hurt,
By his nonchalance….

Tiny Pearls

Over the years I worked hard in my garden,
Tendering to my little lilies and the roses,
And when the snow storm came,
It wiped my little garden away clean…

With the storm came the depression
Survival, a challenge for me-
And my little garden paid the price,
No more little lilies to smile at me…

The bees would buzz through,
Wondering where the flowers went,
If only I could, get my tiny pearls back?
I could smile and dance like I once did.

This one day, I had a guest…
The little angel who flew into my garden
Back to where it belonged, came my smile
And I knew my lilies could dance along…

This is for you my little angel,
Wonder what my garden would do,
If you hadn’t, wandered through…
Wonder where you found my smile…..

The Dandelion's Journey

The dandelion floated, with the light April breeze,
Tossing and bouncing amidst the cherry trees,
It watched the little girl prancing,
And a little boy behind her livelily dancing...
A humming bird flew by,
The woman sat alone, with an expression of sigh!
Near bunches of whiteish-pinkish cherry flowers...
It made its way past gentle petal showers.
The little girl jumped at it's sight,
To hold on, she tried with all her might...
The wind came along and swirled it high,
It carried with it, the melancholy sigh...
"Time to go", said his mom, to the little boy,
All of five, he walked away with his little toy.
The dandelion watched as it pranced with the breeze,
The girl turned around, "Where is... my little cheese?"

Sand Castle

The sun shone bright
The mighty ship, in distant sight
Pearls of perspiration dripped..
The shovel in hand, she gripped,
A lovely castle in the making
Around white beach sand, that sat baking
A droplet flows, down her temple
Wet sand in hand, she molds, gentle….
I sat watching, from a distance,
As she carved out the entrance;
The sultry breeze, blew by
The air around humid and dry,
A wave came lashing... and
Washed away her castle of sand!

Anu....

Been with her from kindergarten throu’ twelfth,
Tall and brilliant, walks by, a studious girl,
In the joy of her wedding bells, I dwellth,
Far far away from the happiness she twirls.
Nostalgia that seeps, through the glass,
Of fourteen years that whizzed through,
A bench in the distant math class,
Three girls chattering, flashes through…
On the road to school, “Arun Ice-creams”,
A board that stands, to remind me of times,
Of intellectual debates and dreams,
Of heated cricket fanatism, yet sublime….
Memories of learning sessions,
Of Ace classes and santro rides,
A mathematician par precision,
That’s all of Anu, I can vouch, with pride!
Today I stand, realizing that time has flown by,
And that you’ve adorned the Mrs. Title,
And how I wish I could be there, sigh,
At this moment of your glory, so vital.

The world throu' my eyes....

Sometimes I feel,
Am a picture on a reel,
Painted pretty,
Genuinely fretty.
Tied, I don’t wanna be,
And free I wanna be,
Like the waves at sea,
Or the bumble bee.
Can I fly?
Soar high up… sigh!
Can I be…
And just be…
Me myself!!!
Not a doll, on the shelf,
That dances to a key,
Can I just be careless n' free….

Hollow world

A wintry morning
By the station,
Wrapped in wool
From head to toe,
A mask to conceal
What lay beneath?
At the crossroads
A body that lay
Half awake,
A mind, restless
But tied, to what -
No one knows!
Memories that trickle
Of warm soup,
In the air of affliction
A smile that wanders by
The horse that trots
As time ticks away
To the tune of
A hollow world....

Ballerina

Those were the days,
When I wore my shoes
And twirled on my toes,
Bliss all around,
An air of warmth,
Music in my ears,
Feet that tapped,
And never ceased to dance,
Until the world tumbled,
And it hit me hard,
That I could never dance,
The music now seems,
Far too painful,
A stark remembrance,
Of the reality,
That I could never be,
The Ballerina I once was.

Racing against time…

When times are low,
When your floating…
Deep into the abysmal
Depths of the ocean.
When your tossed,
From end to end,
And you walk
The lonely road,
When you’ve been
Slapped by fate
A million times,
When betrayal seems
The order of the day..
When trust is a
Farfetched consolation,
You knock,
On a million doors…
You search for,
The truce…
You search for,
Your guardian angel…
You search for,
The pin in a haystack…
You search,
For the tiny hole,
Through which enters…
A million rays!

Trickling water

Blue waves,
Lashing at her feet,
Blazing ball, falling -
Sunset, at the horizon.

She stands in the water,
Her hands cupped,
A palm full of water,
Pure and clear,

An effort to hold on,
But it wishes to flow,
Closed eyes she meditates,
Be there forever….

But before long,
The water’s trickled down,
Far too fragile to clasp,
It seeps quickly, with time.

Drip, drip it falls,
Ripples, ripples all around,
A tear rolls down,
Onto her empty palm.

Grad Escapades - Summer'08

Off through Assateague,
To Ocean city
Far far away,
From CP's nitty-gritty

Over the sea,
Driving through Bay bridge,
Truly a masterpiece;
One of a kind this ridge!

By the ocean,
We played beach volley ball
A time to fly
And a time to fall,

And then, jet- skiing,
An experience, truly exhilarating.
A wish to be, at the throttle,
An adrenaline rush, invigorating!

Away from the speed boat,
And up we went - shoot!
Parasailing in the air,
Suspended to a parachute,

High above the Atlantic,
Time to kill and nothing to do,
But a view of the bay,
A sight thats know to a few.

A weekend to cherish,
By the beach,
A time to live,
Forever we seek to reach.

Ice cream & rain

Its half past noon,
Fall is approaching soon,
Newbies pouring in-
Freebies at the Stamp,

“Ice-creams, for free,
Enjoy them by the tree,”
Money says his tee,
Sunny, aint the weather,

Of to lunch, at noon-
Scurries, the raccoon,
Pitter-patter fallth, the rain,
Teetertotter playth, the Sun.

A bunch of grads walkin by,
Rating, walkth the guy,
Ice-creams in hand,
Screams, in the rain!
